Trend Recap: Monochrome

monochrome trend recap

Today I’m starting a new series called “Trend Recap” in which we will discuss the current trends in the fashion world. Today, we will focus on monochromatic outfits. If you’re a fan of street style like me, you’ve definitely seen the trend spread like a disease. Not only on models (we will get there in a minute) but also on bloggers, actors, singers… You name it.
So, if you’re completely clueless about what the hell this trend is about (it’s okay, that’s why you’re reading this), let me break it down for you.

Noun: a painting or drawing in different shades of a single color.
Adj. Being or made in the shades of a single color.
(Source: Word Reference)

I have noticed that some people think that monochrome only applies to black or white outfits, but this is not true. The monochromatic trend can be applied in every single color imaginable, today I got inspiration from the most wanted models in the industry and decided to show you a few examples of possibly my favorite trend at the moment.

Let’s start with Kendall Jenner and this sophisticated “head to (almost) toe” black little number. At first glance it looks way more complicated that it actually is, but when you look closely you can see that she’s only using a black turtleneck dress with a black coat over it. The white sneakers can be considered as the cherry on top since they’re clearly adding that “top model” look to the entire outfit + the basic accessories, which are a black bag and the black sunglasses.

Black everything + a pop of white.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t own the exact items, a black shirt, shorts and a jacket will do the trick.

Rose Gold

If you don’t have a rose gold or rose quartz piece in your guardrobe, you’re missing out! Pink is here to stay and when used in monochromatic outfits… it looks killer!

Hailey Baldwin decided to rock this trend for a night out, a gorgeous bomber jacket with matching shorts and gladiator heels, she kept the accessories simple with a watch and a bracelet.

It doesn’t matter if the pink color of your clothes is not an exact match, they just need to have similar shades.

nude tones

Gigi Hadid has made monochromatic outfits part of her signature pieces, it doesn’t matter is she picks white, black, blue or green, she has this trend mastered.

On this occasion Miss Hadid chose the nude shades, if you look closely you’ll notice that there is not a perfect match between all the pieces, and that is what makes it look so great. In this particular look, Gigi is also all about layering pieces, the coat over that flowy dress gives that high fashion touch to the outfit

If you don’t have a nude dress, try a midi skirt and a crop top. Switch the heels for sneakers for a casual urban feel.

Monochrome everything

There’s no need to look  like a model or to have designer pieces or even following trends, if you like it, make it yours and rock it.
